| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of John William Hayes on February 28, 2021, at the age of |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, John Hayes was born in Petronila on September 7, |

| 9 | 10 | | 1923, to Julius and Maude Ruth Hayes; he grew up with the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | companionship of four siblings, Nelson, Gladys, Joy, and Dean; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Hayes |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | joined the military in December 1942 and became a tail gunner in the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | 42nd Bombardment Squadron, Seventh Air Force; after completing 40 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | combat missions, he received an honorable discharge and returned to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | his family's ranch in Tilden; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hayes enjoyed the love and |

| 17 | 18 | | support of his wife, the former Genevieve Eva Speckels, with whom he |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than five and a half |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | decades until her passing; he took great pride in his children, |

| 20 | 21 | | John, Marcy, and the late Kathleen Akers, who preceded her father in |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | death; with the passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren into his treasured |

| 23 | 24 | | family; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his loved ones and his country, |

| 25 | 26 | | John Hayes earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who were |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
