5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |

6 | 7 | | those saddened by the passing of Willie E. Sneed of Poteet on |

7 | 8 | | October 13, 2020, at the age of 98; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Ernest and Elizabeth Sneed, Bill Sneed |
---|
9 | 10 | | was born in Pearsall on November 6, 1921; he grew up with a younger |
---|
10 | 11 | | brother and two older sisters, and he learned about responsibility |
---|
11 | 12 | | and the value of hard work at an early age; in 1940, he graduated |
---|
12 | 13 | | from Pearsall High School, where he was a standout tennis and |
---|
13 | 14 | | basketball player; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, As a young man, Mr. Sneed worked for Humble Oil; an |
---|
15 | 16 | | esteemed member of the Greatest Generation, he joined the U.S. |
---|
16 | 17 | | Marine Corps during World War II, and he went on to serve with the |
---|
17 | 18 | | U.S. Air Force as a line chief, flight mechanic, and flight engineer |
---|
18 | 19 | | during the Korean and Vietnam Wars; he retired from the air force in |
---|
19 | 20 | | 1966 at the rank of senior master sergeant, after 22 years of |
---|
20 | 21 | | military service; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sneed enjoyed the love and |
---|
22 | 23 | | support of his wife, Rose, with whom he shared a rewarding marriage |
---|
23 | 24 | | that spanned more than seven decades; he was the devoted father of |
---|
24 | 25 | | two children, Beverly and William, and he took great pride in his |
---|
25 | 26 | | two grandchildren and his great-grandson; a longtime resident of |
---|
26 | 27 | | Poteet, he was a founding member of VFW Post No. 6970 and a |
---|
27 | 28 | | volunteer with the Poteet Strawberry Festival; in his leisure time, |
---|
28 | 29 | | he delighted in coastal fishing at Corpus Christi and playing |
---|
29 | 30 | | dominos and poker; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his community, and |
---|
31 | 32 | | his country, Bill Sneed earned the lasting respect and admiration |
---|
32 | 33 | | of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |

33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Willie E. Sneed and |

35 | 36 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |

36 | 37 | | Rose Sneed; to his daughter, Beverly McIntosh, and her husband, |

37 | 38 | | Jim; to his son, William "Bill" Sneed, and his wife, Carolyn; to his |

38 | 39 | | granddaughter, Reta Dominguez, and her husband, Matt; to his |

39 | 40 | | grandson, Cody Sneed; to his great-grandson, Jaxson Dominguez; and |
