5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Dillard H. Wied of Hebbronville on October 24, 2019, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 92; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Arthur and Annie Wied, Dillard Wied was |
---|
9 | 10 | | born in Crestonio on December 24, 1926, and grew up on the family |
---|
10 | 11 | | farm with four siblings, Franklin, Bonnie, Herbert, and Perry; he |
---|
11 | 12 | | continued to farm and ranch after graduating from high school and |
---|
12 | 13 | | served his country in the U.S. Army; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Following his time in the military, Mr. Wied |
---|
14 | 15 | | partnered with his brother Perry in farming and ranching, and he |
---|
15 | 16 | | also owned a welding shop; he later worked on a logging truck for |
---|
16 | 17 | | Schlumberger before starting a water well drilling and service |
---|
17 | 18 | | company; in 1971, he opened Wied Hardware, which he ran until his |
---|
18 | 19 | | retirement, and afterward, he continued to ranch for a number of |
---|
19 | 20 | | years; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For almost four decades, Mr. Wied served as a |
---|
21 | 22 | | director of First National Bank; he was also active in his community |
---|
22 | 23 | | as a member of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Jim Wells |
---|
23 | 24 | | County Farm Bureau; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wied shared a rewarding marriage with his wife, |
---|
25 | 26 | | Louise, before her passing in 2004; he was the proud father of three |
---|
26 | 27 | | children, Mark, Annette, and Franklin, and through the years, he |
---|
27 | 28 | | was further blessed with seven grandchildren, Ann, Justin, Fallon, |
---|
28 | 29 | | Cameron, Christopher, Meghan, and Kasey, as well as two |
---|
29 | 30 | | great-grandchildren, Kylie and Kelsea; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Although Dillard Wied is greatly missed, he has left |
---|
31 | 32 | | his loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will forever |
---|
32 | 33 | | cherish; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dillard H. Wied and |
---|
35 | 36 | | extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
