| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

| 6 | 7 | | memories of Charles Robert Oelkers of Pleasanton, who died on |

| 7 | 8 | | October 8, 2020, at the age of 86; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Bruno and Frankie Oelkers, Chuck Oelkers |

| 9 | 10 | | was born on March 20, 1934, in San Antonio; he learned the value of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | hard work at an early age working in his grandparents' grocery |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | store, and after graduating from Jefferson High School, he went on |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | to a varied career, serving as a U.S. Marine, a state trooper, a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | police chief, and a food salesman for the Red & White grocery store; |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | after his parents passed away, he took over the Oelkers Ranch full |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | time; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his life, Mr. Oelkers won two |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | awards at quick draw tournaments, and in 1962, he was recognized for |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | outstanding service in law enforcement by the Terrell Hills Police |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Department; in 1973, he took first place in a pool tournament in |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Waco; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Oelkers married the former Aileene Ehninger in |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | 1970, and they shared a loving union that spanned half a century; he |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | was a devoted father to his children, Cindy, Robert, and the late |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Billy Oelkers, and to his stepchildren, Diana, Richard, Eric, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Robert, David, and the late Charlie Ehninger and Sharon Ehninger; |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | with the passing years, his family grew to include 7 grandchildren, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | 13 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 12 |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | step-great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Oelkers lived life to the fullest with dignity |

| 30 | 31 | | and honor, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to |

| 31 | 32 | | inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles Robert |

| 34 | 35 | | Oelkers and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and friends; |
