| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Alton Raymond Samsel of Pleasanton on August 8, 2020, at |

| 7 | 8 | | the age of 81; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Otto and Ida Samsel, Ray Samsel was born |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | in Von Ormy on September 28, 1938; he served in the U.S. Navy as an |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | electronics technician aboard a repair ship; after four years in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the military, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in physics from |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | St. Mary's University while working at Kelly Air Force Base; over |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the course of a career that spanned 42 years, he was employed as a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | physicist, lab supervisor, project engineer, program manager, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | supervisor in the Avionics Intermediate Support Repair Program; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Samsel shared a rewarding marriage of 25 years |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | with his wife, Sue; he took great pride in a fine family that |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | included his 4 children, Donna, Roger, Gary, and Susan, and 2 |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | stepchildren, Matt and Lisa, as well as 15 grandchildren and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | step-grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; benefiting his |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | community, he served on Pleasanton's Charter Review Committee and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Planning and Zoning Commission; he helped shape the city's master |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | plan, and as a member of a long-range planning committee, he worked |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | to develop the successful 2015 Pleasanton ISD school bond package; |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | moreover, he served on the Atascosa County Early Voting Ballot |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Board; in recent years, he and his wife were very active with |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | assisting stray and surrendered pets as members of Atascosa Animal |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Allies; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Ray Samsel made a meaningful difference in the lives |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | of his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and he will always be |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | remembered with great affection by those he left behind; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alton Raymond Samsel |
