| 6 | 7 | | of Oscar R. Vela of Falfurrias, who passed away on April 27, 2021, |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Juventino Vela and Dionicia Lopez Vela, |

| 9 | 10 | | Oscar Vela was born on December 16, 1949, in Falfurrias and grew up |

| 10 | 11 | | with five siblings, Nora, Edna, Dora, Roel, and Robert; he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | graduated from Falfurrias High School in 1968; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Vela served |

| 13 | 14 | | in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1970 before receiving an honorable |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | discharge; in the course of his career, he worked as a carpenter and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | handyman in Falfurrias; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Known for his joyous zest for life, easygoing |

| 17 | 18 | | nature, and delightful sense of humor, Oscar Vela brightened the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | world for all who knew him, and they will forever hold him close in |

| 19 | 20 | | their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

| 20 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 21 | 22 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Oscar R. Vela and |

| 22 | 23 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

| 23 | 24 | | sisters, Nora Benavidez, Edna Perez, and Dora Rodriguez; to his |

| 24 | 25 | | brothers, Roel Vela and Robert J. Vela; to his close friend, Shiela |
