45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The citizens of Cooke County lost a dedicated public
67 servant with the death of former county sheriff John S. Aston of
78 Gainesville on May 19, 2021, at the age of 82; and
89 WHEREAS, John Aston was born in Reliance, Virginia, on May
910 26, 1938, to Elizabeth and Verna Aston, and he moved to Texas in
1011 1957; he was joined in marriage to Phyllis Holley-Aston in 1960, and
1112 the couple shared a loving union until her death in 2005; he was the
1213 proud father of two sons, Jeff and Keith, and later in life he was
1314 blessed with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Aston began his long career in public service by
1516 working for the engineering department of the Texas Highway
1617 Department from 1960 until 1968, when he moved into law
1718 enforcement; from 1968 to 1993, he served with the Cooke County
1819 Sheriff's Office, including nine years as sheriff from 1983 to
1920 1992; he went on to work in the Denton County Sheriff's Office as a
2021 sergeant until his retirement in 2005; and
2122 WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a respected peace officer,
2223 John Aston lived a life made rich through meaningful service, and he
2324 will be deeply missed by all those who held him dear; now,
2425 therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John S. Aston and
2728 extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his sons,
2829 Jeff Aston and Keith Aston and his wife, Janine; to his
2930 grandchildren, Jennifer Johnston and her husband, Jason, Jessica
3031 McCann and her husband, Eric, Cameron Aston and his wife, Lauren,
3132 Lauren Singer and her husband, Adam, Katie Davis and her husband,
3233 Ben, and Dillon Aston and his fiancée, Taylor Dudenhoeffer; to his
3334 great-grandchildren, Madalynn, Presleigh, Laityn, Landon,
3435 Maverick, and Mason; to his brother, Mike Aston; to his in-laws,
3536 Dwight and Hellen Holley; to his aunt and uncle, Peggy and Bill
3637 Aston; to his late-life companion, Linda Call; and to his other
3738 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4041 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Aston.
