| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Rodney Sumner retired as superintendent of the |

| 6 | 7 | | Tuloso-Midway Independent School District on June 30, 2020, drawing |

| 7 | 8 | | to a close an exemplary career in education that spanned 44 years; |

|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sumner joined Tuloso-Midway ISD in 1976, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | working as a Texas history teacher and coach at the junior high; he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | transitioned into administration in 1987 and went on to serve the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | district as a high school principal, athletic director, director of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | personnel, assistant superintendent, and superintendent; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, From 1999 to 2011, Mr. Sumner was superintendent of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Spearman ISD, where he was named the Region 16 Superintendent of the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Year in 2007; he returned to Tuloso-Midway in 2013, ultimately |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | retiring after a total of 33 years with the district; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedication, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | commitment to excellence, Rodney Sumner has helped countless young |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Texans acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent; now, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | therefore, be it |

| 23 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 24 | 25 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Rodney Sumner on his retirement as |

| 25 | 26 | | superintendent of Tuloso-Midway ISD and extend to him sincere best |

| 26 | 27 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
