| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Austin Taylor of Fate was awarded the President's |

| 6 | 7 | | Volunteer Service Gold Award in August 2020, the second time he has |

| 7 | 8 | | received this prestigious accolade; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | individuals who have given generously of their time and talents to |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | improve their communities and enhance the quality of life for their |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | fellow citizens; to earn the gold level award, recipients must |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | perform more than 250 hours of service within a 12-month period; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A junior at Rockwall High School, Mr. Taylor has |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | distinguished himself by volunteering 885 hours over the past three |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | years; he has already been presented with two presidential service |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | awards and has qualified for a third; in addition to his involvement |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | with such philanthropic groups as Lone Star CASA, Rainbow Room, |

| 18 | 19 | | Bikes for Tykes, and North Texas Giving Day, he has demonstrated |

| 19 | 20 | | exceptional dedication to STEM education and the nonprofit |

| 20 | 21 | | organization FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & |

| 21 | 22 | | Technology); and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The founder of both a FIRST LEGO League team for |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | elementary students and a FIRST Tech Challenge team for middle |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | school students, Mr. Taylor teaches robotics skills, leads |

| 25 | 26 | | practices, and accompanies the young competitors to FIRST events; |

| 26 | 27 | | moreover, he has met with both state and federal legislators to |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | advocate for STEM funding and awareness for Title I schools, |

| 28 | 29 | | recognition of STEM Gals Day, and the passage of the Christa |

| 29 | 30 | | McAuliffe Commemorative Coin Act of 2019, which will help fund |

| 30 | 31 | | FIRST programs; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The son of Terry and Danna Taylor, Austin Taylor is |

| 32 | 33 | | an officer for Rockwall High's FIRST Robotics Competition Team 1296 |

| 33 | 34 | | - Full Metal Jackets; he serves as a student ambassador and holds |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | certifications in OSHA and CPR procedures to fulfill official |

| 35 | 36 | | duties at FIRST events; and |

| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Austin Taylor's remarkable initiative and |

| 37 | 38 | | dedication have earned him the respect and admiration of his family |

| 38 | 39 | | and community, and he is truly deserving of special recognition; |

| 40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
