45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The passing of Alfredo Valles of El Paso on February
67 12, 2021, at the age of 60, has deeply saddened his family, his
78 friends, and the many students whose lives he touched over the
89 course of his career as an educator; and
910 WHEREAS, Alfredo Valles, who was affectionately known as
1011 "Freddy," was born in El Paso on July 28, 1960, to Filiberta and
1112 Eulalio Valles; he grew up with the companionship of six siblings,
1213 Romie, Annie, Sylvia, Richard, Sandy, and Irene; from the time he
1314 was a small child, he began showing an interest in music, and he
1415 went on to learn to play the trumpet; after graduating from
1516 Jefferson High School in 1978, he set his sights on a career as a
1617 music teacher, leading him to earn a degree in music education from
1718 West Texas State University in 1982; and
1819 WHEREAS, At age 21, Mr. Valles took his first job as band
1920 director at Andress High School, becoming the youngest person ever
2021 hired to the position; over the course of 39 years with the El Paso
2122 Independent School District, he worked primarily in El Paso's
2223 Segundo Barrio neighborhood at Guillen Middle School and Bowie High
2324 School; he was passionate about his role as an educator, and he took
2425 immense interest in not only teaching his students how to read music
2526 and play instruments, but also instilling in them confidence,
2627 discipline, and other important values; the fulfillment he found in
2728 his work led him to forgo retirement for years to continue serving
2829 area youth; and
2930 WHEREAS, Outside of schools and classrooms, Mr. Valles
3031 expressed his musical talents as a member of nearly a dozen bands;
3132 he most recently played gigs with the Starliners, and he was known
3233 to perform with his band at many large family gatherings; and
3334 WHEREAS, Mr. Valles cherished his circle of loved ones above
3435 all else; he married the love of his life, Elvira, in 1988, and the
3536 couple devotedly raised three treasured children, Katherine,
3637 Alfred Anthony, and Nicholas; Mr. Valles was overjoyed to welcome
3738 into the family three grandchildren, Trinity, AJ, and Aliq, and he
3839 always supported and encouraged his children, grandchildren,
3940 nieces, and nephews in all their endeavors; and
4041 WHEREAS, Freddy Valles made a profound and lasting impression
4142 on the hearts of many people, and although he is deeply missed, he
4243 will forever be remembered with admiration and affection; now,
4344 therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4546 Legislature hereby pay tribute the memory of Alfredo Valles and
4647 extend deepest sympathy to all those who mourn his passing; and, be
4748 it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Freddy
5152 Valles.
