45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The citizens of Henderson County lost a dedicated
67 public servant with the death of Constable Sherry Kay Langford of
78 Athens on January 14, 2021, at the age of 62; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on August 23, 1958, Kay Langford was
910 the daughter of James Arnold Kincer and Joann Sherrill Thomas
1011 Rogers, and she grew up with the companionship of four sisters,
1112 Vicky, Donna, Mary, and Kelly; and
1213 WHEREAS, Ms. Langford began her career in law enforcement as
1314 a dispatcher with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, and in
1415 1992, after graduating from the East Texas Police Academy, she
1516 became the county's first female patrol deputy; she was promoted to
1617 investigator in 1996 and then to lieutenant over the criminal
1718 investigations division in 2001; two years later, she took on a new
1819 role as lieutenant over the narcotics unit; she was also actively
1920 involved with the East Texas Drug Task Force and served as head of
2021 the Henderson County Drug Task Force; she retired from HCSO in 2016,
2122 drawing to a close a notable tenure that spanned some three decades;
2223 and
2324 WHEREAS, Following her retirement, this esteemed Texan was
2425 elected as constable of Henderson County Precinct 1; she was
2526 reelected to a second term in 2020 and continued serving in that
2627 role until the time of her passing; and
2728 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Langford enjoyed the love
2829 and support of her husband, Jim, with whom she shared a rewarding
2930 marriage of 28 years; she took great pride in her two children,
3031 Terry and Jarod, and she delighted in time spent with her two
3132 grandchildren, Morgan and Maddox; and
3233 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family and her community, Kay
3334 Langford made a meaningful difference in the lives of her loved ones
3435 and fellow citizens alike, and she will long be remembered with
3536 great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Constable Sherry
3839 Kay Langford and extend sincere condolences to her relatives and
3940 friends; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House
4243 of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Kay
4344 Langford.
