5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Henderson County lost a dedicated |

6 | 7 | | public servant with the death of Constable Sherry Kay Langford of |

7 | 8 | | Athens on January 14, 2021, at the age of 62; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on August 23, 1958, Kay Langford was |
---|
9 | 10 | | the daughter of James Arnold Kincer and Joann Sherrill Thomas |
---|
10 | 11 | | Rogers, and she grew up with the companionship of four sisters, |
---|
11 | 12 | | Vicky, Donna, Mary, and Kelly; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Langford began her career in law enforcement as |
---|
13 | 14 | | a dispatcher with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, and in |
---|
14 | 15 | | 1992, after graduating from the East Texas Police Academy, she |
---|
15 | 16 | | became the county's first female patrol deputy; she was promoted to |
---|
16 | 17 | | investigator in 1996 and then to lieutenant over the criminal |
---|
17 | 18 | | investigations division in 2001; two years later, she took on a new |
---|
18 | 19 | | role as lieutenant over the narcotics unit; she was also actively |
---|
19 | 20 | | involved with the East Texas Drug Task Force and served as head of |
---|
20 | 21 | | the Henderson County Drug Task Force; she retired from HCSO in 2016, |
---|
21 | 22 | | drawing to a close a notable tenure that spanned some three decades; |

22 | 23 | | and |

23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Following her retirement, this esteemed Texan was |
---|
24 | 25 | | elected as constable of Henderson County Precinct 1; she was |
---|
25 | 26 | | reelected to a second term in 2020 and continued serving in that |
---|
26 | 27 | | role until the time of her passing; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Langford enjoyed the love |
---|
28 | 29 | | and support of her husband, Jim, with whom she shared a rewarding |
---|
29 | 30 | | marriage of 28 years; she took great pride in her two children, |
---|
30 | 31 | | Terry and Jarod, and she delighted in time spent with her two |
---|
31 | 32 | | grandchildren, Morgan and Maddox; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family and her community, Kay |
---|
33 | 34 | | Langford made a meaningful difference in the lives of her loved ones |
---|
34 | 35 | | and fellow citizens alike, and she will long be remembered with |
---|
35 | 36 | | great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Constable Sherry |
---|
38 | 39 | | Kay Langford and extend sincere condolences to her relatives and |
---|
39 | 40 | | friends; and, be it further |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
