| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Robert C. Vackar and Janet Ogden Vackar have set an |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The owners of the Bert Ogden Auto Group, the Vackars |

| 9 | 10 | | have given generously of their financial resources to numerous |

| 10 | 11 | | worthy causes, and they are especially staunch champions of higher |

| 11 | 12 | | education; in 2016, the couple presented The University of Texas |

| 12 | 13 | | Rio Grande Valley with the largest scholarship gift in the history |

| 13 | 14 | | of the institution, providing $2 million to create scholarship |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | endowments for aspiring entrepreneurs and students pursuing |

| 15 | 16 | | degrees in mass communications; they have also helped fund the |

| 16 | 17 | | Susan Lewis Vackar Clark Endowed Memorial Scholarship, established |

| 17 | 18 | | in tribute to Mr. Vackar's late sister, an elementary school |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Vackars are longtime benefactors of Easterseals |

| 22 | 23 | | Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Palm Valley Animal Society; in |

| 23 | 24 | | 2012, they chaired the inaugural holiday fundraiser for the |

| 24 | 25 | | Renaissance Cancer Foundation, and Ms. Vackar has been a member of |

| 25 | 26 | | the board of the Vannie Cook Cancer Foundation and a sustaining |

| 26 | 27 | | member of the Junior League of McAllen; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In 2016, the Vackars became the first couple |

| 28 | 29 | | selected as recipients of the prestigious Border Texans of the Year |

| 29 | 30 | | award; UTRGV named its Robert C. Vackar College of Business and |

| 30 | 31 | | Entrepreneurship in honor of Mr. Vackar, and the Edinburg |

| 31 | 32 | | Consolidated Independent School District named its Janet Ogden |

| 32 | 33 | | Vackar Sports Complex in recognition of Ms. Vackar's many good |

| 33 | 34 | | works in behalf of area children; moreover, the couple were |

| 34 | 35 | | instrumental in the effort to name the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg |

| 35 | 36 | | in memory of Ms. Vackar's father, who founded the family's chain of |

| 36 | 37 | | auto dealerships; in all their endeavors, the Vackars benefit from |

| 37 | 38 | | the love and support of their daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and |

| 38 | 39 | | Will McCullough, and grandchildren, Walt, Sawyer, Emmylou, and |

| 39 | 40 | | Dorothy Sabine; and |

| 40 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Robert and Janet Vackar have demonstrated a lasting |

| 41 | 42 | | commitment to making the Rio Grande Valley a better place for all, |

| 42 | 43 | | and in so doing, they have earned the deep respect and appreciation |

| 43 | 44 | | of their fellow residents; now, therefore, be it |

| 44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby commend Robert C. Vackar and Janet Ogden Vackar |
