| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mario H. Salinas was named the new |

| 6 | 7 | | superintendent of the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School |

| 7 | 8 | | District in February 2021; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, With this appointment, Dr. Salinas takes over one of |

| 9 | 10 | | the largest school districts in the nation, encompassing 945 square |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | miles in the Rio Grande Valley and serving nearly 35,000 students at |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | more than 40 campuses; over the course of a career with the district |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | that has spanned more than three decades, Dr. Salinas has served as |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | a high school science teacher, head varsity basketball coach, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | assistant principal, and he was principal of Edinburg North High |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | School for nearly 10 years; moreover, he has held the position of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | assistant superintendent for support services since 2005; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Salinas has served the greater community as a |

| 18 | 19 | | board member for such worthy organizations as the Edinburg Rising |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Stars Foundation, the Hidalgo County Head Start Program, and Boys & |

| 20 | 21 | | Girls Club of Edinburg RGV; he is an alumnus of The University of |

| 21 | 22 | | Texas-Pan American and holds a master's degree in educational |

| 22 | 23 | | administration and a doctorate in educational leadership; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career as a teacher and |

| 24 | 25 | | administrator, Mario Salinas has upheld the highest standards of |

| 25 | 26 | | his profession, and he will bring to his new duties as |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | superintendent equal commitment and energy; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mario H. Salinas on his |
