| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Magic Valley Electric Cooperative has played a vital |

| 6 | 7 | | role in the lives of Rio Grande Valley residents for more than eight |

| 7 | 8 | | decades, and its crews went to commendable lengths to restore power |

| 8 | 9 | | to area households in the wake of Hurricane Hanna; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The storm made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane on |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Padre Island on July 25, 2020, bringing winds of up to 90 miles per |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | hour and inundating parts of South Texas with over 15 inches of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | rain; disaster declarations were issued in 32 counties, and as a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | result of downed power lines and other infrastructure damage, tens |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | of thousands of outages were reported in Corpus Christi, Laredo, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and the Rio Grande Valley; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, At the peak of the outages, more than 75,000 Magic |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Valley Electric Cooperative members, a majority of the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | organization's patrons, were without power; in the week that |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | followed, MVEC deployed linemen to neighborhoods that received |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | storm damage, and through their diligent efforts, electricity was |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | restored to almost all of those affected within days of the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | hurricane; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Founded by a group of local farmers and ranchers in |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | 1937, MVEC is an independent not-for-profit member-owned |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | organization; it has long been an integral part of the community, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | and it is today a reliable source of electric power to over 125,000 |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | member accounts in seven counties; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, After nearly a century in the Rio Grande Valley, |

| 29 | 30 | | Magic Valley Electric Cooperative continues to further its |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | reputation for excellence, and the professionals who were part of |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | its Hurricane Hanna recovery team are to be commended for their |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | dedicated efforts; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby honor Magic Valley Electric Cooperative for its |

| 35 | 36 | | outstanding work to restore service to its members in the aftermath |

| 36 | 37 | | of Hurricane Hanna and that all those affiliated with the |

| 37 | 38 | | organization be extended sincere best wishes for continued success; |
