5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 7 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |

7 | 8 | | of Karen Kromer Harrison, who passed away on January 11, 2021, at |

8 | 9 | | the age of 91; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Earl and Nell Kromer, the former |
---|
10 | 11 | | Karen Kromer was born in Shamrock on June 27, 1929; she studied |
---|
11 | 12 | | political science at The University of Texas and married her |
---|
12 | 13 | | childhood sweetheart, Clanton Bedford "Scoot" Harrison Jr.; |
---|
13 | 14 | | Mrs. Harrison completed her degree at the University of Houston, |
---|
14 | 15 | | and she and her husband raised their family in Bunker Hill Village, |
---|
15 | 16 | | sharing 55 years together before his death in 2002; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Mrs. Harrison volunteered |
---|
17 | 18 | | her time with families at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer |
---|
18 | 19 | | Center and led its Children's Christmas Card Project; the program |
---|
19 | 20 | | gained national acclaim under her leadership, and she was honored |
---|
20 | 21 | | with the creation of the Karen Harrison Service Award; she also |
---|
21 | 22 | | received the Houston Mayor's Award and the National Points of Light |
---|
22 | 23 | | Award from President Bill Clinton in recognition of her work; |
---|
23 | 24 | | moreover, she and her husband were founding members of the Texas A&M |
---|
24 | 25 | | Foundation President's Endowed Scholarship program; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Harrison treasured time spent with her three |
---|
26 | 27 | | children, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Clanton, and she took great pride |
---|
27 | 28 | | in her seven grandchildren; possessed of a boundless sense of |
---|
28 | 29 | | adventure, she enjoyed traveling with her family to countries |
---|
29 | 30 | | around the world, and she loved snorkeling, scuba diving, and |
---|
30 | 31 | | camping; deeply devoted to her faith, she was involved with |
---|
31 | 32 | | outreach at West University Baptist Church and participated in |
---|
32 | 33 | | mission trips; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Karen Harrison was a woman of great compassion who |
---|
34 | 35 | | remained engaged in the world throughout her life and who found joy |
---|
35 | 36 | | and inspiration in helping others; now, therefore, be it |

36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Karen Kromer Harrison |

38 | 39 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |

39 | 40 | | daughters, Sarah Harrison and her husband, Jeff, and Elizabeth |

40 | 41 | | Blakemore and her husband, Allen; to her son, Clanton Harrison, and |

41 | 42 | | his wife, Selby; to her grandchildren, Seth, James, Leah, Theodore, |
