45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
67 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
78 of Karen Kromer Harrison, who passed away on January 11, 2021, at
89 the age of 91; and
910 WHEREAS, The daughter of Earl and Nell Kromer, the former
1011 Karen Kromer was born in Shamrock on June 27, 1929; she studied
1112 political science at The University of Texas and married her
1213 childhood sweetheart, Clanton Bedford "Scoot" Harrison Jr.;
1314 Mrs. Harrison completed her degree at the University of Houston,
1415 and she and her husband raised their family in Bunker Hill Village,
1516 sharing 55 years together before his death in 2002; and
1617 WHEREAS, Active in her community, Mrs. Harrison volunteered
1718 her time with families at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer
1819 Center and led its Children's Christmas Card Project; the program
1920 gained national acclaim under her leadership, and she was honored
2021 with the creation of the Karen Harrison Service Award; she also
2122 received the Houston Mayor's Award and the National Points of Light
2223 Award from President Bill Clinton in recognition of her work;
2324 moreover, she and her husband were founding members of the Texas A&M
2425 Foundation President's Endowed Scholarship program; and
2526 WHEREAS, Mrs. Harrison treasured time spent with her three
2627 children, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Clanton, and she took great pride
2728 in her seven grandchildren; possessed of a boundless sense of
2829 adventure, she enjoyed traveling with her family to countries
2930 around the world, and she loved snorkeling, scuba diving, and
3031 camping; deeply devoted to her faith, she was involved with
3132 outreach at West University Baptist Church and participated in
3233 mission trips; and
3334 WHEREAS, Karen Harrison was a woman of great compassion who
3435 remained engaged in the world throughout her life and who found joy
3536 and inspiration in helping others; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Karen Kromer Harrison
3839 and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
3940 daughters, Sarah Harrison and her husband, Jeff, and Elizabeth
4041 Blakemore and her husband, Allen; to her son, Clanton Harrison, and
4142 his wife, Selby; to her grandchildren, Seth, James, Leah, Theodore,
4243 Augustus, Charlotte, and Sarah; and to her other relatives and
4344 friends; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Karen
4748 Harrison.
