| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Albert L. Lemons is retiring as principal of |

| 6 | 7 | | Atherton Elementary School in the Houston Independent School |

| 7 | 8 | | District on January 31, 2021, drawing to a close a noteworthy career |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | that has spanned more than a half century with the district; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in San Francisco, California, Dr. Lemons grew |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | up in the Bayou City and attended Kashmere Gardens High School; he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | completed his bachelor's degree in elementary education at Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Southern University, and he later earned master's degrees in both |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | curriculum and instruction and in educational administration and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | doctoral degrees in sacred music and in education; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lemons joined HISD as a fourth-grade teacher at |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | T. M. Fairchild Elementary School, and he went on to teach at |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | J. W. Oates Elementary, Holland Middle School, and Jefferson Davis |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | High School; in addition, he has been an administrator for W. Leo |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Daniels Private School, and during summers, he worked at Prairie |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | View A&M University and as a reading instructor and assistant |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | director for a Texas Southern University youth program; from 2007 |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | to 2010, he served on the board of North Forest ISD, and he has been |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | a member of the Houston ISD Superintendent's Ad Hoc Committee; he |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | has given generously of his time and expertise to a host of |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | community organizations and served as vice president of the Near |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Northside Management District board; a retired church musician as |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | well, he has served in many leadership roles, including as director |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | of supervisors for the National Convention of the Gospel Music |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Workshop of America; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his long tenure with HISD, Albert |

| 31 | 32 | | Lemons has made a positive difference in the lives of countless |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | young people, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well |

| 33 | 34 | | spent; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Albert L. Lemons on his |

| 36 | 37 | | retirement as principal of Atherton Elementary School and extend to |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
