5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Gabriel Rivas III of Corpus Christi, on August 5, 2020, |

7 | 8 | | at the age of 66; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on May 9, 1954, Gabe Rivas was the son of |
---|
9 | 10 | | Gabriel Rivas Jr. and Paulita G. Rivas, and he grew up with the |
---|
10 | 11 | | companionship of five siblings, Yvette, David, Robert, Joseph, and |
---|
11 | 12 | | Edward; after graduating from Roy Miller High School, he studied |
---|
12 | 13 | | photography at East Los Angeles College; he subsequently returned |
---|
13 | 14 | | to Texas to join the family business, Gabriel Rivas Photography, |
---|
14 | 15 | | and over the course of a rewarding career spanning four decades, he |
---|
15 | 16 | | worked with a number of nationally recognized photographers such as |
---|
16 | 17 | | Bill Stockwell, Monte Zucker, and Rocky Gunn; active in his |
---|
17 | 18 | | profession, he was a former member of the National Photographers |
---|
18 | 19 | | Association of America and the Texas Professional Photographers |
---|
19 | 20 | | Association; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Mr. Rivas was a |

21 | 22 | | graduate of Leadership Corpus Christi and served as board chair of |
---|
22 | 23 | | the program's alumni association; he was also a member of the Corpus |
---|
23 | 24 | | Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and in 2000, he was elected |
---|
24 | 25 | | first vice chair of the Del Mar College Board of Regents, later |
---|
25 | 26 | | serving as president and as District 1 representative; moreover, he |
---|
26 | 27 | | held membership with the City of Corpus Christi Minority Business |
---|
27 | 28 | | Owners Commission, Charter Revision Commission, and Landmark |
---|
28 | 29 | | Commission; he further distinguished himself as president and |
---|
29 | 30 | | district director of LULAC Council No. 1, which recognized him |
---|
30 | 31 | | multiple times as Man of the Year; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Rivas enjoyed the love and |
---|
32 | 33 | | support of his wife, Mary Ledesma, and he took great pride in his |
---|
33 | 34 | | stepchildren, Toney, Cassandra, Tray'Von, and Rudy, his |
---|
34 | 35 | | grandchildren, and his son, Gabriel; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Gabe Rivas made a meaningful difference in the lives |
---|
36 | 37 | | of his loved ones and his fellow citizens alike, and those he left |
---|
37 | 38 | | behind will treasure their memories of his warmth, generosity, and |
---|
38 | 39 | | dedication; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gabriel Rivas III and |

41 | 42 | | extend sincere condolences to his relatives and friends; and, be it |
