45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Hardin-Jefferson High School girls' basketball
67 team enjoyed an exceptional 2020-2021 campaign, claiming the
78 district title, winning 35 consecutive games, and advancing all the
89 way to the University Interscholastic League 4A state championship
910 contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and
1011 WHEREAS, After compiling a flawless record of 23 wins and
1112 zero losses in the regular season, the Lady Hawks embarked on an
1213 exciting postseason run; they defeated the teams from Bridge City,
1314 El Campo, and Silsbee by wide margins, then knocked off China Spring
1415 and La Vega High Schools to earn their second trip to the state
1516 tournament in the past three years; and
1617 WHEREAS, In the semifinals against Boerne, Hardin-Jefferson
1718 entered the second half with a slim four-point advantage before
1819 pulling away for a commanding 73-54 victory; squaring off against
1920 Canyon High School in the state finale, the Lady Hawks turned in a
2021 valiant effort in a hard-fought game but ultimately fell short,
2122 ending their season with a stellar record of 29 wins and only one
2223 loss; and
2324 WHEREAS, Junior Ashlon Jackson and sophomore Molly Beavers
2425 were recognized for their impressive performances during the final
2526 two games in San Antonio, earning selection to the Texas Girls
2627 Coaches Association All-Tournament Team; Ms. Jackson previously
2728 earned the same distinction as a freshmen in 2019; and
2829 WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Lady Hawks
2930 also received valuable contributions throughout the year from the
3031 other members of the roster: Kassidi Riley, Jalyn Wright, Kendall
3132 Sneed, Audie Rogers, Jada Pleasant, Savannah McDonald, India
3233 McMahon, Makenna Henry, Rylee Wirth, Ashlyn Yarbrough, and Kenasha
3334 Semien; these dedicated athletes were guided by head coach Mike
3435 Fogo and assistant coaches Kris Rogers, Omar Sneed, Erin Smith, and
3536 Kerry Sims; and
3637 WHEREAS, With their exceptional skill and unwavering
3738 commitment to excellence, the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks earned a
3839 place among the top high school basketball teams in Texas, and they
3940 are a source of tremendous pride to their classmates and their many
4041 supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby congratulate the Hardin-Jefferson High School
4344 girls' basketball team on advancing to the 2021 UIL 4A state
4445 championship game and extend to the team's players, coaches, and
4546 staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for the Lady Hawks as an expression of high regard by the
4849 Texas House of Representatives.
