45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Members of the Recording Academy Texas Chapter are
67 celebrating the rich musical heritage of our state with Texas Music
78 Advocacy Day on March 30, 2021; and
89 WHEREAS, The birthplace of Texas country, Tejano, and other
910 distinctive styles, the Lone Star State has a history of producing
1011 music in a vast range of genres, and such talented artists as
1112 Beyoncé, Gary Clark Jr., Flaco Jimenez, George Strait, Norah Jones,
1213 the Black Pumas, and Willie Nelson have all called Texas home; and
1314 WHEREAS, To serve the state's vibrant music community, the
1415 Recording Academy, the organization responsible for the Grammy
1516 Awards, established a Texas chapter in 1998, and this year, 23 music
1617 professionals who were born or live in Texas have received 37
1718 nominations at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards in March 2021; and
1819 WHEREAS, Before the pandemic, more than 210,000 jobs were
1920 tied to the music industry in Texas, and each year, live music
2021 festivals have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in
2122 economic activity; as a reflection of its support for this
2223 important commercial sector, the Texas Legislature created the
2324 Texas Music Office, which opened its doors in 1990; and
2425 WHEREAS, The innovative musicians of the Lone Star State are
2526 furthering an exceptional legacy of artistic achievement, and in so
2627 doing, they are making a notable contribution to the culture and
2728 economy of Texas; now, therefore, be it
2829 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2930 Legislature hereby recognize March 30, 2021, as Texas Music
3031 Advocacy Day and extend sincere best wishes to the members of the
3132 Recording Academy Texas Chapter.
