| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close |

| 6 | 7 | | with the passing of Leonel Olivarez Sr. of Rio Grande City on |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Leonel Olivarez graduated from The University of |

| 9 | 10 | | Texas-Pan American with a bachelor's degree in elementary education |

| 10 | 11 | | and a master's degree in bilingual education, and he went on to |

| 11 | 12 | | enjoy a fulfilling career as an educator that spanned five decades; |

|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Olivarez |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | proudly served with the U.S. Army; his commitment and positive |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | attitude greatly benefited his unit, and he retired after a quarter |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | century of service as a noncommissioned officer at the rank of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | sergeant; moreover, he was deeply dedicated to his community, and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | he held a seat on the Mission City Council for 16 years; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Olivarez shared nearly 49 |

| 20 | 21 | | years of marriage with his beloved wife, Amparo; he took great pride |

| 21 | 22 | | in his three children, Leo, Lorene, and Lisa, and his eight |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | grandchildren, Leo, Alyssa, Jackie, Victoria, Angelo, Daniel, Mya, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | and Ozzie, and he was actively involved in their extracurricular |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | activities; in all his endeavors, he drew strength from his strong |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and abiding faith; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Blessed with a charming smile and a magnetic |

| 27 | 28 | | personality, Leonel Olivarez brightened the world for all who knew |

| 28 | 29 | | him, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Leonel Olivarez Sr. |
