45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The legendary performer Beyoncé Knowles-Carter won
67 four awards at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards on March 14, 2021,
78 bringing her total number of Grammys to 28, the most ever received
89 by a woman artist; and
910 WHEREAS, During the awards ceremony held in Los Angeles,
1011 Beyoncé won the Grammy for best R&B performance for her song "Black
1112 Parade," and her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion on the song
1213 "Savage" won two Grammys, for best rap song and best rap
1314 performance; she also shared the Grammy for best music video with
1415 her daughter, Blue Ivy, and WizKid, for "Brown Skin Girl"; and
1516 WHEREAS, A Houston native, Beyoncé earned her first Grammy
1617 nominations at the age of 17, when she was still a member of
1718 Destiny's Child, which was nominated in two categories at the 42nd
1819 Grammys in 1999; the following year, the group won two awards with
1920 their hit song, "Say My Name," and they won another Grammy in 2001
2021 with their song "Survivor"; and
2122 WHEREAS, Beyoncé went solo in 2003 with her album Dangerously
2223 in Love, which earned her five Grammys at the 46th annual awards
2324 ceremony, including best contemporary R&B album, best female R&B
2425 vocal performance, best R&B performance by a duo or group with
2526 vocals, best R&B song, and best rap/sung collaboration; she won
2627 another Grammy with Destiny's Child in 2005, and in 2006, her second
2728 solo album, B'Day, took the award for best contemporary R&B album;

2930 WHEREAS, Since then, Queen Bey, as she is known to her adoring
3031 fans, has received at least one nomination nearly every year and
3132 usually several, and she has won multiple awards in many different
3233 categories; at the 52nd Grammys in 2009, she won six awards,
3334 including song of the year for her blockbuster hit "Single Ladies
3435 (Put a Ring on It)" and best contemporary R&B album for her
3536 groundbreaking double album, I Am... Sasha Fierce; in 2016, she
3637 took home two awards, including best urban contemporary album for
3738 Lemonade and best music video for "Formation"; and
3839 WHEREAS, Beyoncé has received a remarkable 79 Grammy
3940 nominations and 28 wins, the most ever won by a female artist; her
4041 total also ties her with the legendary composer and producer Quincy
4142 Jones and puts her in the running to break the record of most
4243 Grammys ever, currently held by the symphony conductor Georg Solti;
4344 and
4445 WHEREAS, A superstar entertainer, a generous philanthropist,
4546 and a role model to millions, Beyoncé is one of the leading voices
4647 of her generation, and her fellow Texans are indeed proud to claim
4748 her as one of their own; now, therefore, be it
4849 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4950 Legislature hereby congratulate Beyoncé Knowles-Carter for setting
5051 a record for most Grammys received by a woman artist with her 28th
5152 Grammy Award win at the 2021 Grammy Awards and extend to her sincere
5253 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
5354 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5455 prepared for Beyoncé as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5556 House of Representatives.
