45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort the
67 loved ones of Glen Davis Fisher of Sonora, who passed away on
78 February 8, 2021, at the age of 74; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Childress on February 5, 1947, to Leona and
910 Lindsay Fisher, Glen Fisher grew up on a farm outside of Lorenzo
1011 along with four sisters, Joan, Mary, Kay, and Burma; he graduated as
1112 valedictorian of Lorenzo High School in 1965, before enrolling at
1213 Texas Tech University; while there, he met and fell in love with
1314 Linda Ann McBride, and the pair exchanged wedding vows on May 21,
1415 1971; they shared nearly half a century of marriage and raised two
1516 treasured children, Tammy and David; in later life, Mr. Fisher had
1617 the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include two
1718 grandchildren, Madalyn and Weston; and
1819 WHEREAS, Mr. Fisher earned a master's degree in agriculture
1920 economics from Oklahoma State University; he was employed with the
2021 Texas Agricultural Extension Service for a time, and in 1977, the
2122 family moved to Sonora, where he worked for and learned about the
2223 ranching business from his grandfather-in-law, Robert Halbert;
2324 making a name for himself in the wool and mohair industries,
2425 Mr. Fisher took over as manager of the Sonora Wool and Mohair
2526 Company in 1979 and continued to find success managing companies in
2627 Ozona and Del Rio; over time, he created a family legacy by teaching
2728 his children the ins and outs of ranching and economics; and
2829 WHEREAS, Mr. Fisher benefited his peers through his service
2930 as president of both the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association
3031 and the American Sheep Industry Association; he was a member of many
3132 different committees, and he took pride in being appointed as chair
3233 of the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center; he was greatly
3334 respected for his contributions, which included his work to
3435 advocate for better agricultural policies at the state and national
3536 levels; over the years, he was recognized with such accolades as the
3637 Sutton County Conservation Rancher of the Year Award and the
3738 American Wool Excellence Award; and
3839 WHEREAS, Engaged in his community, Mr. Fisher also found time
3940 to serve as president of the Lions Club, the Sonora Golf Club, and
4041 the Sutton County Health Foundation; he was a member of numerous
4142 committees at the First United Methodist Church of Sonora, and he
4243 performed volunteer work for the Sutton County 4-H Club and the
4344 local Little League; and
4445 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, as well as an esteemed
4546 business and civic leader, Glen Fisher will forever be remembered
4647 with deep admiration and affection by all who were privileged to
4748 know him; now, therefore, be it
4849 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4950 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glen Davis Fisher and
5051 extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends; and, be it
5152 further
5253 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5354 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5455 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Glen Davis
5556 Fisher.
