5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort the |

6 | 7 | | loved ones of Glen Davis Fisher of Sonora, who passed away on |

7 | 8 | | February 8, 2021, at the age of 74; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Childress on February 5, 1947, to Leona and |
---|
9 | 10 | | Lindsay Fisher, Glen Fisher grew up on a farm outside of Lorenzo |
---|
10 | 11 | | along with four sisters, Joan, Mary, Kay, and Burma; he graduated as |
---|
11 | 12 | | valedictorian of Lorenzo High School in 1965, before enrolling at |
---|
12 | 13 | | Texas Tech University; while there, he met and fell in love with |
---|
13 | 14 | | Linda Ann McBride, and the pair exchanged wedding vows on May 21, |
---|
14 | 15 | | 1971; they shared nearly half a century of marriage and raised two |
---|
15 | 16 | | treasured children, Tammy and David; in later life, Mr. Fisher had |
---|
16 | 17 | | the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include two |
---|
17 | 18 | | grandchildren, Madalyn and Weston; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fisher earned a master's degree in agriculture |
---|
19 | 20 | | economics from Oklahoma State University; he was employed with the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Texas Agricultural Extension Service for a time, and in 1977, the |
---|
21 | 22 | | family moved to Sonora, where he worked for and learned about the |
---|
22 | 23 | | ranching business from his grandfather-in-law, Robert Halbert; |
---|
23 | 24 | | making a name for himself in the wool and mohair industries, |
---|
24 | 25 | | Mr. Fisher took over as manager of the Sonora Wool and Mohair |
---|
25 | 26 | | Company in 1979 and continued to find success managing companies in |
---|
26 | 27 | | Ozona and Del Rio; over time, he created a family legacy by teaching |
---|
27 | 28 | | his children the ins and outs of ranching and economics; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fisher benefited his peers through his service |
---|
29 | 30 | | as president of both the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association |
---|
30 | 31 | | and the American Sheep Industry Association; he was a member of many |
---|
31 | 32 | | different committees, and he took pride in being appointed as chair |
---|
32 | 33 | | of the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center; he was greatly |
---|
33 | 34 | | respected for his contributions, which included his work to |
---|
34 | 35 | | advocate for better agricultural policies at the state and national |
---|
35 | 36 | | levels; over the years, he was recognized with such accolades as the |
---|
36 | 37 | | Sutton County Conservation Rancher of the Year Award and the |
---|
37 | 38 | | American Wool Excellence Award; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Engaged in his community, Mr. Fisher also found time |
---|
39 | 40 | | to serve as president of the Lions Club, the Sonora Golf Club, and |
---|
40 | 41 | | the Sutton County Health Foundation; he was a member of numerous |
---|
41 | 42 | | committees at the First United Methodist Church of Sonora, and he |
---|
42 | 43 | | performed volunteer work for the Sutton County 4-H Club and the |
---|
43 | 44 | | local Little League; and |
---|
44 | 45 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, as well as an esteemed |
---|
45 | 46 | | business and civic leader, Glen Fisher will forever be remembered |
---|
46 | 47 | | with deep admiration and affection by all who were privileged to |
---|
47 | 48 | | know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
49 | 50 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glen Davis Fisher and |
---|
50 | 51 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends; and, be it |
---|
51 | 52 | | further |

52 | 53 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

53 | 54 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
54 | 55 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Glen Davis |
---|
