45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, On February 2, 2021, Denton County hosted its first
67 drive-through COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Texas Motor Speedway,
78 which at the time was the largest vaccination effort of its kind in
89 the state; and
910 WHEREAS, Texas Motor Speedway's 131-acre parking lot was
1011 converted into 16 lanes, where 400 staff and volunteers were on hand
1112 to administer vaccines and screen and monitor vaccine recipients;
1213 approximately 9,100 individuals were immunized on the first day of
1314 the drive-through clinic, and within three days Denton County
1415 provided the vaccine to more than 27,000 individuals; history was
1516 made again on March 4, 2021, when a recipient at the Texas Motor
1617 Speedway received the 100,000th COVID-19 vaccination; and
1718 WHEREAS, A number of individuals have devoted time and effort
1819 to making the clinic a success; those deserving of recognition for
1920 their contributions include Denton County Judge Andy Eads, the
2021 Denton County Commissioners Court, Denton County Public Health, the
2122 Denton County Medical Reserve Corps, the leadership of Texas Motor
2223 Speedway, local municipalities throughout the region, first
2324 responders, medical personnel, and all volunteers who helped staff
2425 the clinic; special thanks is also owed to the Texas Department of
2526 State Health Services and the Texas Division of Emergency
2627 Management under the leadership of Governor Greg Abbott for their
2728 support, as well as to the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and
2829 WHEREAS, Denton County and its partners are planning more
2930 clinics for the future as additional doses arrive, and the
3031 drive-through COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Texas Motor Speedway
3132 continues to serve as the model for vaccination clinics across the
3233 state and nation; and
3334 WHEREAS, By joining together in this collaborative
3435 undertaking, these organizations and individuals are helping to
3536 swiftly immunize more Texans and bring an end to the COVID-19 crisis
3637 in the community, and it is a pleasure to commend them on a job well
3738 done; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby recognize Denton County and its partners for
4041 hosting one of the largest drive-through COVID-19 vaccination
4142 clinics in the state and extend to all those involved sincere best
4243 wishes for the future; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for Denton County as an expression of high regard by the
4546 Texas House of Representatives.
