| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Council on |

| 6 | 7 | | American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW) is a leading advocate for |

| 7 | 8 | | justice and mutual understanding in the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Headquartered in Washington, D.C., with regional |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | offices nationwide, CAIR is America's largest Islamic civil |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | liberties group; the nonprofit's members are dedicated to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | supporting and protecting the civil rights of American Muslims, to |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | promoting justice and equality, and to advancing public |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | understanding of the Muslim faith; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Since 1998, CAIR-DFW has been a leading voice for |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | the Muslim community in Dallas and Fort Worth, taking on the civil |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | rights cases, free of charge, of American Muslims who have been |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | discriminated against; the chapter also maintains a government |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | relations department, which organizes voter registration drives |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and trains community members on how to approach their elected |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | officials; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In addition, the chapter maintains a media |

| 22 | 23 | | engagement effort, helping to ensure that Muslim voices are heard |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | in the media and providing community leaders with the tools they |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | need to engage the media; the outreach and education department |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | operates a Muslim speakers bureau that makes professional Muslim |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | speakers available for events at schools, religious institutions, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | and other public forums, and the chapter's youth empowerment |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | initiative works to build the next generation of American Muslim |
|---|

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, By advocating for peace, tolerance, and unity among |

| 31 | 32 | | people of all faiths, CAIR is working to ensure that American |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | society remains true to its founding ideals, and CAIR-DFW is truly |

| 33 | 34 | | deserving of special recognition as it continues its efforts to |

| 34 | 35 | | build a brighter future for all; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the work of the Dallas-Fort Worth |

| 38 | 39 | | all those associated with the chapter sincere best wishes for |
