45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Residents of McCulloch County lost an esteemed
67 public official and a cherished friend with the passing of the
78 Honorable Bill J. Spiller on December 26, 2020, at the age of 62;
89 and
910 WHEREAS, Bill Spiller was born in Brady on November 4, 1958,
1011 to Jack and Peggy Spiller, and he grew up with the companionship of
1112 three siblings, Jane, Dan, and George; after graduating from Brady
1213 High School, he continued his studies at The University of Texas at
1314 Austin, where he earned a degree in public relations; and
1415 WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, Judge Spiller enjoyed a
1516 rewarding career in banking; he initially worked at financial
1617 institutions in Austin and then Los Angeles before returning to
1718 Texas to manage a group of banks with locations in Winters,
1819 Eastland, Cisco, and Ranger; subsequently, he moved back to Brady
1920 to manage the local Bank of America, and he went on to serve as
2021 president of American State Bank in Big Spring for eight years,
2122 until his retirement in 2013; he then returned home to Brady and
2223 began working for the USDA Farm Service Agency; and
2324 WHEREAS, Judge Spiller's deep commitment to his community led
2425 him to participate in numerous civic endeavors over the years; in
2526 2015, he became presiding judge of the Brady Municipal Court, and he
2627 was elected as county judge of McCulloch County in 2018; he also
2728 served as president of the Voca Community Center and the Voca
2829 Cemetery Association, and he was a member of the City of Brady
2930 Zoning Board of Adjustment and the McCulloch County Senior Citizen
3031 Association Sunset Center Advisory Board; in his leisure hours, he
3132 enjoyed traveling and spending time at the family ranch near Voca,
3233 as well as pursuing his passion for history; and
3334 WHEREAS, Bill Spiller was an accomplished professional who
3435 also devoted himself to making McCulloch County an even better
3536 place to live, and he leaves behind a record of good works that will
3637 be admired for years to come; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Judge Bill J.
3940 Spiller and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
4041 his sister, Jane Penn, and her husband, Lee Tetens; to his brothers,
4142 Dan and George Spiller; to his nieces, Shelly Schueshler and Gena
4243 Spiller; to his nephew, T. J. Penn, and his wife, Tracy; to his
4344 great-nieces, M. J. and Allie Penn; and to his other relatives and
4445 many friends; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge Bill
4849 Spiller.
