| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Richardson Independent School |

| 6 | 7 | | District Council of PTAs have distinguished themselves through |

| 7 | 8 | | their commitment to supporting area youth; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding organization traces its roots back |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | to 1910, when the Richardson Mother's Club was founded; the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Richardson PTA joined the National Parent Teacher Association in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 1929, and the Richardson ISD Council of PTAs was officially |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | established in 1959; since then, the council has grown to include |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | more than 54 local PTA groups at schools in Richardson, Dallas, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Garland; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Members of the council have worked tirelessly to |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | help Richardson ISD students reach their full potential by |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | empowering educators, families, and area residents to advocate for |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | children throughout the district; the council has launched a number |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | of community service initiatives, including the car seat giveaway |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | event, clothes closet, and used book fair; moreover, the council |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | awards scholarships to Richardson ISD high school students and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | teachers; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Richardson ISD Council of PTAs benefits from the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | able leadership of its president, Carolyn Potter, and its executive |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | board; with the support of more than 20,000 PTA members, the council |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | serves nearly 40,000 students; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Richardson ISD Council of PTAs |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | have made a meaningful difference in the lives of numerous young |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Texans, and their willingness to give of their time and talents sets |

| 30 | 31 | | an outstanding example of civic engagement; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby commend the members of the Richardson |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Independent School District Council of PTAs for their dedication to |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | serving area youth and extend to them sincere best wishes for the |
|---|
