45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, From February 13-17, 2021, a historic winter storm
67 swept across the state and brought significant snowfall, freezing
78 rain, and sustained, below-freezing temperatures to the Central
89 Texas area; and
910 WHEREAS, The winter conditions resulted in blackouts that
1011 impacted nearly 200,000 Austin Energy homes and more throughout the
1112 Travis County area, forcing many Texans to contend with freezing
1213 weather without heat or electricity; as ice accumulated on
1314 roadways, some area residents were unable to obtain food or make
1415 trips for other essential items, and the record-low temperatures
1516 also led to frozen or burst pipes that left many without running
1617 water; and
1718 WHEREAS, During this unprecedented event, leaders and
1819 citizens of Central Texas stepped up to provide food, water, and
1920 other resources to community members in need; many of them were
2021 experiencing their own hardships at this time, and some braved
2122 dangerous road conditions in order to reach and render aid to their
2223 vulnerable neighbors; and
2324 WHEREAS, Among those who distinguished themselves in the
2425 midst of this crisis was Denise Holliday, who coordinated relief
2526 efforts for the Milan Apartments; and
2627 WHEREAS, Winter Storm Uri was a natural disaster of historic
2728 magnitude for our state, and Central Texans are profoundly grateful
2829 for the caring individuals who went above and beyond during this
2930 challenging time for their community; now, therefore, be it
3031 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3132 Legislature hereby honor Denise Holliday for providing vital help
3233 to her neighbors during Winter Storm Uri and extend to her sincere
3334 appreciation for her hard work and selfless service; and, be it
3435 further
3536 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3637 prepared for Ms. Holliday as an expression of high regard by the
3738 Texas House of Representatives.
