| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, From February 13-17, 2021, a historic winter storm |

| 6 | 7 | | swept across the state and brought significant snowfall, freezing |

| 7 | 8 | | rain, and sustained, below-freezing temperatures to the Central |

| 8 | 9 | | Texas area; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The winter conditions resulted in blackouts that |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | impacted nearly 200,000 Austin Energy homes and more throughout the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Travis County area, forcing many Texans to contend with freezing |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | weather without heat or electricity; as ice accumulated on |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | roadways, some area residents were unable to obtain food or make |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | trips for other essential items, and the record-low temperatures |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | also led to frozen or burst pipes that left many without running |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | water; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, During this unprecedented event, leaders and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | citizens of Central Texas stepped up to provide food, water, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | other resources to community members in need; many of them were |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | experiencing their own hardships at this time, and some braved |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | dangerous road conditions in order to reach and render aid to their |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | vulnerable neighbors; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Among those who distinguished themselves in the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | midst of this crisis were students at The University of Texas School |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | of Nursing, who coordinated relief efforts for elderly residents at |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | the Cambridge Villas Senior Housing Apartments; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Winter Storm Uri was a natural disaster of historic |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | magnitude for our state, and Central Texans are profoundly grateful |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | for the caring individuals who went above and beyond during this |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | challenging time for their community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor students at The University of Texas School |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | of Nursing for providing vital help to their neighbors during |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Winter Storm Uri and extend to them sincere appreciation for their |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | hard work and selfless service; and, be it further |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
