45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Honorable Lora Livingston, presiding judge of
67 the 261st District Court, has been named the recipient of the 2021
78 Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League in Austin; and
89 WHEREAS, A 1982 graduate of the University of California, Los
910 Angeles, Judge Livingston began her career working with the Legal
1011 Aid Society of Central Texas; after continuing in poverty law for
1112 several years, she went into private practice, and in 1993, she and
1213 Gail Parr formed their own law firm, Livingston & Parr, where she
1314 focused on civil litigation and family law; and
1415 WHEREAS, Judge Livingston became the first African American
1516 woman on the bench in the Travis County District Courts when she was
1617 sworn in as an associate judge in 1995; she went on to become the
1718 presiding judge of the 261st District Court in 1999; in addition to
1819 fulfilling these duties, she has served as the local administrative
1920 judge for the Travis County Courts; and
2021 WHEREAS, Active in her community, Judge Livingston has given
2122 generously of her time and talents to the boards of such
2223 organizations as the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders,
2324 the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Area Urban League, and El
2425 Buen Samaritano; she is also a graduate of Leadership Austin; over
2526 the years, she has received numerous accolades recognizing her
2627 professional and civic accomplishments, including the Community
2728 Service Award from the Austin Independent School District, the
2829 Outstanding Attorney Award from the Travis County Women Lawyers
2930 Association, and the Pro Bono Champion Award from the Texas Access
3031 to Justice Commission; and
3132 WHEREAS, Through her dedication to the law and to her fellow
3233 citizens, Judge Lora Livingston has gained the lasting respect and
3334 admiration of her peers, and she is truly deserving of special
3435 recognition for her many contributions to the Lone Star State; now,
3536 therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby congratulate Lora Livingston on her receipt of
3839 the 2021 Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League in
3940 Austin and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success
4041 with her important work; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for Judge Livingston as an expression of high regard by the
4344 Texas House of Representatives.
