5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Lora Livingston, presiding judge of |

6 | 7 | | the 261st District Court, has been named the recipient of the 2021 |

7 | 8 | | Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League in Austin; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A 1982 graduate of the University of California, Los |
---|
9 | 10 | | Angeles, Judge Livingston began her career working with the Legal |
---|
10 | 11 | | Aid Society of Central Texas; after continuing in poverty law for |
---|
11 | 12 | | several years, she went into private practice, and in 1993, she and |
---|
12 | 13 | | Gail Parr formed their own law firm, Livingston & Parr, where she |
---|
13 | 14 | | focused on civil litigation and family law; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Judge Livingston became the first African American |
---|
15 | 16 | | woman on the bench in the Travis County District Courts when she was |
---|
16 | 17 | | sworn in as an associate judge in 1995; she went on to become the |
---|
17 | 18 | | presiding judge of the 261st District Court in 1999; in addition to |
---|
18 | 19 | | fulfilling these duties, she has served as the local administrative |
---|
19 | 20 | | judge for the Travis County Courts; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Judge Livingston has given |
---|
21 | 22 | | generously of her time and talents to the boards of such |
---|
22 | 23 | | organizations as the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, |
---|
23 | 24 | | the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Area Urban League, and El |
---|
24 | 25 | | Buen Samaritano; she is also a graduate of Leadership Austin; over |
---|
25 | 26 | | the years, she has received numerous accolades recognizing her |
---|
26 | 27 | | professional and civic accomplishments, including the Community |
---|
27 | 28 | | Service Award from the Austin Independent School District, the |
---|
28 | 29 | | Outstanding Attorney Award from the Travis County Women Lawyers |
---|
29 | 30 | | Association, and the Pro Bono Champion Award from the Texas Access |
---|
30 | 31 | | to Justice Commission; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through her dedication to the law and to her fellow |
---|
32 | 33 | | citizens, Judge Lora Livingston has gained the lasting respect and |
---|
33 | 34 | | admiration of her peers, and she is truly deserving of special |
---|
34 | 35 | | recognition for her many contributions to the Lone Star State; now, |

36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lora Livingston on her receipt of |

39 | 40 | | Austin and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success |
