| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, March for Life has demonstrated outstanding public |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | spirit through its dedication to the advancement of the pro-life |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | movement; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, On January 22, 1974, the March for Life began as a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | peaceful demonstration in response to the Roe v. Wade and Doe |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | v. Bolton decisions, and it has since grown into one of the largest |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | annual pro-life events in the world; each year, thousands of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | civic-minded individuals gather to march on Capitol Hill, and many |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | more express their support through state marches and donations; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to its annual demonstrations, the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | organization advocates year round through the March for Life Action |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Activist Network; in 2020, this initiative connected more than |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 200,000 activists with legislators at the local, state, and federal |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | level; it strives to make lobbying more accessible and ensure that |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | its members can exercise their civic responsibility; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, March for Life has benefited from the able |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | leadership of its president, Jeanne F. Mancini, and the president |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of March for Life Action, Tom McClusky; among its goals for 2021, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the organization plans to hold five state marches, expand its |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | activist network, and increase its outreach on social and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | mainstream media; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, For more than four and a half decades, the members of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | March for Life have made a lasting difference through their |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | political activism, and they may indeed take great pride in their |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commend March for Life on its political |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | engagement and extend to its members sincere best wishes for the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
