6 | 7 | | memories of Billy Roy Haynes of Livingston, who died on March 13, |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, B. R. Haynes was born in Livingston to Newman and |
---|
9 | 10 | | Lillian Haynes on October 2, 1926, and grew up with two siblings, |
---|
10 | 11 | | Newman and Francis; after graduating from Livingston High School in |
---|
11 | 12 | | 1943, he briefly attended Texas A&M University before serving with |
---|
12 | 13 | | the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II, helping to deliver war |
---|
13 | 14 | | matériel to England, Italy, and Russia; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Haynes worked as a |
---|
15 | 16 | | golf pro and then joined his family's business, the Haynes |
---|
16 | 17 | | Manufacturing Company; he began as a salesman, pitching the |
---|
17 | 18 | | company's products throughout the eastern and central United |
---|
18 | 19 | | States, and eventually became head of the company; after retiring |
---|
19 | 20 | | in 1987 and passing the business along to his sons, he enjoyed |
---|
20 | 21 | | traveling to national parks with his wife; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Haynes served with the Livingston Volunteer |
---|
22 | 23 | | Fire Department for 17 years, including 14 years as chief, and he |
---|
23 | 24 | | played an important role in the department's modernization; he also |
---|
24 | 25 | | served as president of the Texas State Firefighters' and Fire |
---|
25 | 26 | | Marshals' Association; in addition, he was a 32nd-degree Mason with |
---|
26 | 27 | | Trinity Lodge No. 14 and a director emeritus of First State Bank of |
---|
27 | 28 | | Livingston, and he was named Polk Countian of the Year; a lifelong |
---|
28 | 29 | | member of First United Methodist Church, he served on its building |
---|
29 | 30 | | committee when the church moved to its current location; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Haynes enjoyed the love |
---|
31 | 32 | | and support of his wife, the former Fayelene Kersh, with whom he |
---|
32 | 33 | | shared 70 years; the couple were blessed with six children, Joe, |
---|
33 | 34 | | John, David, Jerry Don, Jimmy, and Janice, and they later welcomed |
---|
34 | 35 | | into their family 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and |

35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, B. R. Haynes lived a rich and purposeful life, and he |

36 | 37 | | leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember |

37 | 38 | | with pride; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
