45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of Billy Roy Haynes of Livingston, who died on March 13,
78 2021, at the age of 94; and
89 WHEREAS, B. R. Haynes was born in Livingston to Newman and
910 Lillian Haynes on October 2, 1926, and grew up with two siblings,
1011 Newman and Francis; after graduating from Livingston High School in
1112 1943, he briefly attended Texas A&M University before serving with
1213 the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II, helping to deliver war
1314 matériel to England, Italy, and Russia; and
1415 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Haynes worked as a
1516 golf pro and then joined his family's business, the Haynes
1617 Manufacturing Company; he began as a salesman, pitching the
1718 company's products throughout the eastern and central United
1819 States, and eventually became head of the company; after retiring
1920 in 1987 and passing the business along to his sons, he enjoyed
2021 traveling to national parks with his wife; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Haynes served with the Livingston Volunteer
2223 Fire Department for 17 years, including 14 years as chief, and he
2324 played an important role in the department's modernization; he also
2425 served as president of the Texas State Firefighters' and Fire
2526 Marshals' Association; in addition, he was a 32nd-degree Mason with
2627 Trinity Lodge No. 14 and a director emeritus of First State Bank of
2728 Livingston, and he was named Polk Countian of the Year; a lifelong
2829 member of First United Methodist Church, he served on its building
2930 committee when the church moved to its current location; and
3031 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Haynes enjoyed the love
3132 and support of his wife, the former Fayelene Kersh, with whom he
3233 shared 70 years; the couple were blessed with six children, Joe,
3334 John, David, Jerry Don, Jimmy, and Janice, and they later welcomed
3435 into their family 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and
3536 WHEREAS, B. R. Haynes lived a rich and purposeful life, and he
3637 leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember
3738 with pride; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Billy Roy Haynes and
4041 extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
4142 Fayelene Haynes; to his sons, Joe Haynes and his wife, Nancy, John
4243 Haynes and his wife, Londa, and David Haynes and his wife, Lisa; to
4344 his daughter-in-law, Debbie Haynes; to his grandchildren, Judy,
4445 Sarah, April, Matthew, Lauren, Joseph, Andrew, Zachary, Ethan,
4546 Austin, Kelsey, Ryan, Brooke, Kyle, Blake, Jacob, and Lilly; to his
4647 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Riley, Carley, Jack, Luke, Mason,
4748 Wyatt, Katie, Campbell, Wilder, Aden, Allie, Madison, Braxton,
4849 Graham, Carter Kate, and Ian; to his sister, Francis McAlister; and
4950 to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5253 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of B. R.
5354 Haynes.
