45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed community leader drew to a
67 close with the passing of former Benbrook City Council member
78 Ronald Joseph Sauma on August 5, 2020, at the age of 83; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, Ron Sauma was born on
910 August 2, 1937, to Rudolpho and Marguerite Sauma; he served his
1011 country proudly as a member of the United States Navy during the
1112 Korean War, and he was stationed aboard the destroyer USS Johnston
1213 as a radarman; after returning stateside, he wed the love of his
1314 life, Marie Moore, in 1962, beginning a marriage that would span
1415 nearly six decades; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Sauma worked as a brewery warehouse supervisor
1617 for the Miller Brewing Company, beginning his career in New York
1718 before relocating to Texas; following his retirement after 40 years
1819 with the company, he became an active and engaged member of the
1920 Benbrook community and enjoyed volunteering for such groups as
2021 4PAWS, the Benbrook Lions Club, and the Benbrook Citizens on
2122 Patrol, as well as at the local Veterans Administration Outpatient
2223 Clinic and at the Cardiac Rehab Center at Texas Health Harris
2324 Methodist Hospital Fort Worth; he was a recipient of the
2425 President's Volunteer Service Award in recognition of his more than
2526 12,000 hours of volunteer work; and
2627 WHEREAS, From 2001 to 2019, Mr. Sauma greatly benefited his
2728 fellow citizens as the Place 7 representative on the Benbrook City
2829 Council; over the course of his tenure, Benbrook was honored with
2930 multiple Voice of the People awards, which are given to communities
3031 with the highest rated municipal services in the nation; and
3132 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Sauma treasured his family; he
3233 was the devoted father of two children, Donna and George, and he was
3334 further blessed with two grandchildren, Anthony and Madelyn, who
3435 were his pride and joy; when not at work, he enjoyed taking cruises
3536 to the Caribbean with his wife, watching westerns, trying his luck
3637 at casinos, and cheering on his granddaughter at her dance
3738 competitions; and
3839 WHEREAS, Ron Sauma was a pillar of his community, a loving
3940 family man, and a dear friend to many, and the generosity and
4041 integrity with which he lived his life will forever inspire all who
4142 had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ronald Joseph Sauma
4445 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
4546 wife, Marie Sauma; to his children, Donna Sauma and her husband,
4647 Brian, and George Sauma; to his grandchildren, Anthony Sauma and
4748 Madelyn Hayden; to his sister, Darlene Kalil; and to his other
4849 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4950 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5051 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5152 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ron Sauma.
