5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Wallis, an oil and acrylic painter hailing |

6 | 7 | | from Waco, has earned widespread acclaim and recognition for his |

7 | 8 | | vibrant landscapes, portraits, still life paintings, and abstract |

8 | 9 | | compositions; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wallis began his artistic studies at University |
---|
10 | 11 | | High School in Waco and went on to graduate with a fine arts degree |
---|
11 | 12 | | from Baylor University in 1967; embarking on his career as a |
---|
12 | 13 | | professional artist, he opened a design studio and also taught art |
---|
13 | 14 | | and design courses at Baylor and art appreciation courses at |
---|
14 | 15 | | McLennan Community College; for a decade, he operated his studio in |
---|
15 | 16 | | Waco, where Baylor University was one of his major clients; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Over the past 10 years, Mr. Wallis has painted |
---|
17 | 18 | | numerous depictions of vintage Waco landmarks, in addition to |
---|
18 | 19 | | homages to iconic Baylor University figures such as the |
---|
19 | 20 | | university's namesake, Judge R. E. B. Baylor, and Heisman Trophy |
---|
20 | 21 | | winner Robert Griffin III; he has donated a number of pieces from |
---|
21 | 22 | | this collection to the Historic Waco Foundation, and he has also |
---|
22 | 23 | | displayed his art at several local galleries; many of his other |
---|
23 | 24 | | works are inspired by the natural beauty of Texas, and he has been |

24 | 25 | | featured elsewhere in the state at the Adobe Western Art Gallery in |
---|
25 | 26 | | Fort Worth, the Weiler House Fine Art Gallery in Arlington, the |

26 | 27 | | Frame Gallery in Bryan, and the Texas Visual Artists Association in |

27 | 28 | | Dallas; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wallis's paintings have been selected for a host |

29 | 30 | | of awards, including first-place honors at the Irving Art |

30 | 31 | | Association's National Wildlife Show in 2010, at the Nature Art |

31 | 32 | | Exhibition in 2012, and at the Conroe Art League Annual Show in |

32 | 33 | | 2017, along with Best in Show honors from the Central Texas Art |

33 | 34 | | League in 2016 and the Envision Arts Happy Fall Show in 2019; he has |

34 | 35 | | served as a judge for the Lone Star Art Guild Annual Show, and he has |

35 | 36 | | benefited his peers in the arts scene through various leadership |

39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Charles Wallis's passion, imagination, and mastery |

42 | 43 | | has made a contribution all his own to the rich tapestry of Texas |
