45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Charles Wallis, an oil and acrylic painter hailing
67 from Waco, has earned widespread acclaim and recognition for his
78 vibrant landscapes, portraits, still life paintings, and abstract
89 compositions; and
910 WHEREAS, Mr. Wallis began his artistic studies at University
1011 High School in Waco and went on to graduate with a fine arts degree
1112 from Baylor University in 1967; embarking on his career as a
1213 professional artist, he opened a design studio and also taught art
1314 and design courses at Baylor and art appreciation courses at
1415 McLennan Community College; for a decade, he operated his studio in
1516 Waco, where Baylor University was one of his major clients; and
1617 WHEREAS, Over the past 10 years, Mr. Wallis has painted
1718 numerous depictions of vintage Waco landmarks, in addition to
1819 homages to iconic Baylor University figures such as the
1920 university's namesake, Judge R. E. B. Baylor, and Heisman Trophy
2021 winner Robert Griffin III; he has donated a number of pieces from
2122 this collection to the Historic Waco Foundation, and he has also
2223 displayed his art at several local galleries; many of his other
2324 works are inspired by the natural beauty of Texas, and he has been
2425 featured elsewhere in the state at the Adobe Western Art Gallery in
2526 Fort Worth, the Weiler House Fine Art Gallery in Arlington, the
2627 Frame Gallery in Bryan, and the Texas Visual Artists Association in
2728 Dallas; and
2829 WHEREAS, Mr. Wallis's paintings have been selected for a host
2930 of awards, including first-place honors at the Irving Art
3031 Association's National Wildlife Show in 2010, at the Nature Art
3132 Exhibition in 2012, and at the Conroe Art League Annual Show in
3233 2017, along with Best in Show honors from the Central Texas Art
3334 League in 2016 and the Envision Arts Happy Fall Show in 2019; he has
3435 served as a judge for the Lone Star Art Guild Annual Show, and he has
3536 benefited his peers in the arts scene through various leadership
3637 roles with the Texas Visual Arts Association, the Central Texas Art
3738 League, the Brazos Valley Art League, and the Visual Art Society of
3839 Bryan-College Station; and
3940 WHEREAS, Charles Wallis's passion, imagination, and mastery
4041 of his medium are evidenced in his extensive body of work and the
4142 multitude of painting styles and subjects he has explored, and he
4243 has made a contribution all his own to the rich tapestry of Texas
4344 art; now, therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4546 Legislature hereby honor Charles Wallis for his lifetime of
4647 artistic achievements and extend to him sincere best wishes for
4748 continued success and fulfillment in his future endeavors; and, be
4849 it further
4950 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5051 prepared for Mr. Wallis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5152 House of Representatives.
