5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Navarro County has lost a revered member of the |

6 | 7 | | community with the passing of Dr. Kent Rogers, the county health |

7 | 8 | | director and longtime Corsicana school board president, on January |

8 | 9 | | 30, 2021, at the age of 75; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born on December 8, 1945, in Arkansas City, Kansas, |
---|
10 | 11 | | Kent Rogers grew up in Mount Pleasant; he studied at Rice University |
---|
11 | 12 | | and earned his medical degree from The University of Texas |
---|
12 | 13 | | Southwestern Medical School, and following two years of service in |
---|
13 | 14 | | the United States Navy, he completed his residency at Parkland |
---|
14 | 15 | | Hospital; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, For several decades, Dr. Rogers practiced as a |
---|
16 | 17 | | physician at various Corsicana medical providers, including |
---|
17 | 18 | | Medical Arts Clinic, Trinity Clinic, Medical and Surgical |
---|
18 | 19 | | Associates of Corsicana, and Navarro Regional Hospital, where he |
---|
19 | 20 | | served as the institution's chief of staff and as medical director |
---|
20 | 21 | | of its ICU; for 30 years, he also volunteered as a team physician |
---|
21 | 22 | | for the Corsicana Tigers football program, a role he heartily |
---|
22 | 23 | | enjoyed; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Rogers's interest in public education led him to |
---|
24 | 25 | | run for a seat on the Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees, and his more |
---|
25 | 26 | | than 20-year tenure included presiding over the board from 1992 to |
---|
26 | 27 | | 2010 and again from 2014 to 2021; he further benefited his fellow |
---|
27 | 28 | | Texans through his service as director of the Corsicana/Navarro |
---|
28 | 29 | | County Health Department and medical director of The Village at |
---|
29 | 30 | | Heritage Oaks Retirement and Assisted Living Facility; over the |
---|
30 | 31 | | past year, as one of Corsicana's leading health authorities, he had |
---|
31 | 32 | | been instrumental in helping the community to navigate the COVID-19 |
---|
32 | 33 | | crisis; in all his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and support of his |
---|
33 | 34 | | wife, Donna Jo, and his three children, Cyndi, Susan, and Mark; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, A man of rare compassion, character, and wisdom, |
---|
35 | 36 | | Dr. Kent Rogers earned a special place in the hearts of innumerable |
---|
36 | 37 | | people, and he leaves behind a legacy that will forever be |
---|
37 | 38 | | cherished; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Kent Rogers and |
---|
40 | 41 | | extend deepest sympathy to his loved ones and many friends; and, be |

41 | 42 | | it further |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
