5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |

6 | 7 | | those saddened by the death of Darlene Bonner of Jacksboro on March |

7 | 8 | | 13, 2021, at the age of 78; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Jacksboro on January 13, 1943, the former |
---|
9 | 10 | | Darlene Duncan was the daughter of Wallace and Gladys Duncan; she |
---|
10 | 11 | | married Ed Bonner, and the couple went on to share a rewarding |
---|
11 | 12 | | marriage that spanned more than five and a half decades; she took |
---|
12 | 13 | | great pride in their two children, Melanie and Tiffany, and with the |
---|
13 | 14 | | passing years, she saw her family grow to include two |
---|
14 | 15 | | grandchildren, Zach and Lauren; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Bonner earned a bachelor's degree from the |
---|
16 | 17 | | University of North Texas and a master's degree from Texas Woman's |
---|
17 | 18 | | University, and she enjoyed a rewarding 37-year career in secondary |
---|
18 | 19 | | education that included teaching English and French and serving as |
---|
19 | 20 | | a counselor; in addition, she sponsored numerous high school |
---|
20 | 21 | | organizations, such as the National Honor Society, student council, |
---|
21 | 22 | | the International Thespian Society, and the Nike Club, and she |
---|
22 | 23 | | delighted in working with students in directing dinner theatre and |
---|
23 | 24 | | senior class plays; committed to making a difference in the lives of |
---|
24 | 25 | | others, she spent many years as an education counselor at the |
---|
25 | 26 | | Jacksboro and Bridgeport state correctional facilities after her |
---|
26 | 27 | | retirement from Jacksboro High School; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Mrs. Bonner gave of her |
---|
28 | 29 | | time and talents to Delta Kappa Gamma, the Jacksboro High School |
---|
29 | 30 | | Ex-Students Association, Business and Professional Women, and the |
---|
30 | 31 | | University of North Texas Alumni Association; a woman of deep |
---|
31 | 32 | | faith, she was a valued member of the Church of Christ; she was an |
---|
32 | 33 | | avid sports fan and closely followed UNT football and all of the |
---|
33 | 34 | | DFW-area professional franchises, especially the Dallas Cowboys; |
---|
34 | 35 | | and |

35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Although Darlene Bonner will be deeply missed, those |
---|
36 | 37 | | who held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she |

37 | 38 | | brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Darlene Bonner and |

40 | 41 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her |

41 | 42 | | husband, Ed Bonner; to her daughters, Melanie Pizzey and her |

42 | 43 | | husband, Dave, and Tiffany Lipscomb and her husband, Wendell; to |

43 | 44 | | her grandchildren, Zach Pizzey and his wife, Amy, and Lauren |

44 | 45 | | Pizzey; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
