5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bob Covey, president of the Cypress-Fairbanks |

6 | 7 | | Independent School District Board of Trustees, has been named a |

7 | 8 | | recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award by Texas State |

8 | 9 | | University; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This accolade, first presented to Lyndon B. Johnson, |

10 | 11 | | recognizes alumni who have achieved prominence and made a |
---|
11 | 12 | | significant impact on the lives of others through their |
---|
12 | 13 | | professions, accomplishments, affiliations, and service to society |
---|
13 | 14 | | and the university; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to education, Mr. Covey joined the |
---|
15 | 16 | | school board in 2005 and has served in a number of capacities, |
---|
16 | 17 | | including secretary and vice president; he is a CFISD Global |
---|
17 | 18 | | Volunteer and a reader at Sheridan and Metcalf Elementary Schools, |
---|
18 | 19 | | and he participates in the district Bus Buddies program and Read |
---|
19 | 20 | | Across America; in addition, he regularly lectures at the Texas |
---|
20 | 21 | | Southern University College of Education and helps recruit teachers |
---|
21 | 22 | | for CFISD; he was a member of the Long-Range Planning Committees |
---|
22 | 23 | | that assisted in forming recommendations for 2001 and 2004 bond |
---|
23 | 24 | | referendums; and |

24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Covey became a master trustee through the Texas |
---|
25 | 26 | | Association of School Board's Leadership TASB program, and he has |
---|
26 | 27 | | served the association through his membership on its board and |
---|
27 | 28 | | Legislative Review Committee; in addition, he is a member of the |
---|
28 | 29 | | Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards, a Texas Fellow, and a |
---|
29 | 30 | | Make Education a Priority ambassador, as well as president of Go |
---|
30 | 31 | | Public Gulf Coast; he further benefits his community as a member of |

31 | 32 | | the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce and the Christ the Redeemer |

32 | 33 | | Catholic Church Knights of Columbus; and |

33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A 1969 graduate of Texas State, Mr. Covey earned his |

34 | 35 | | bachelor's degree in music education; he was employed for 35 years |
---|
35 | 36 | | by American Alloy Steel and rose to become vice president of sales; |

36 | 37 | | in his retirement, he continues to work for the company in a support |
---|
37 | 38 | | role; he and his wife, Kathleen, are the proud parents of three |
---|
38 | 39 | | CFISD graduates and grandparents of five CFISD students; and |
---|
39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Bob Covey has made contributions of lasting value |
---|
40 | 41 | | through his tireless efforts in behalf of public education, and he |
---|
41 | 42 | | is richly deserving of this notable honor; now, therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bob Covey on his receipt of a |

44 | 45 | | Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas State University and extend |

45 | 46 | | to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
