| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Reverend Dr. Michael A. Evans Sr. of Bethlehem |

| 6 | 7 | | Baptist Church was elected mayor of Mansfield in December 2020; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A longtime leader in his community, Mayor Evans |

| 8 | 9 | | served on the board of trustees of the Mansfield Independent School |

| 9 | 10 | | District from 2007 to 2016, including two years as president; he was |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | also a trustee of the Tarrant County College District from 2016 to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 2020, the administrator of TCC's ESL and Adult Basic Education |

| 12 | 13 | | Centers, and a member of the advisory council of Tarrant County |

| 13 | 14 | | Habitat for Humanity and the advisory board of the Methodist |

| 14 | 15 | | Mansfield Medical Center, and he now serves on the advisory board of |

| 15 | 16 | | the Arlington & Mansfield Area Salvation Army Corps; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Michael Evans earned his |

| 17 | 18 | | bachelor's degree in political science from The University of Texas |

| 18 | 19 | | at Arlington, his master's degree in divinity from Texas Christian |

| 19 | 20 | | University, and his doctorate in ministry from Baylor University; |

| 20 | 21 | | he has been pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Mansfield for more |

| 21 | 22 | | than 30 years, and he is the founder of the church's Educational |

| 22 | 23 | | Enrichment Corporation and the Historic West Mansfield Texas |

| 23 | 24 | | Community Development Corporation, which played a leading role in |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the construction of Bethlehem's Pioneer Place Senior Adult |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Independent Living Complex; in addition, he is a former U.S. Navy |

| 26 | 27 | | reserve chaplain, the director of Life Touch Cottage Ministries, |

| 27 | 28 | | and the former director of African American Ministries for the |

| 28 | 29 | | Baptist General Convention of Texas; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mayor Evans enjoys the love |

| 30 | 31 | | and support of his wife, Lisa Evans, and their two children and |

| 31 | 32 | | granddaughter; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, For many years, this esteemed Texan's leadership and |

| 33 | 34 | | dedication to his community have greatly benefited his fellow |

| 34 | 35 | | citizens, and he may reflect with pride on his many contributions to |

| 35 | 36 | | Mansfield and Tarrant County as he takes on the challenges and |

| 36 | 37 | | opportunities of his new position; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Dr. Michael A. Evans |

| 39 | 40 | | Sr. on his election as mayor of Mansfield and extend to him sincere |
