5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lubbock Meals on Wheels, Inc., celebrated its 50th |

6 | 7 | | anniversary in April 2021, presenting a welcome occasion to reflect |

7 | 8 | | on the organization's vital work in behalf of the community; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1971, Lubbock Meals on Wheels was |
---|
9 | 10 | | developed to improve the health and well-being of homebound elderly |
---|
10 | 11 | | residents through the provision of nutritious meals; the group's |
---|
11 | 12 | | initial board meeting was held on February 11 of that year, and on |
---|
12 | 13 | | April 1, the organization delivered its first meals to 29 |
---|
13 | 14 | | recipients; today, the organization regularly serves more than 850 |
---|
14 | 15 | | Texans; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Lubbock Meals on Wheels has greatly benefited from |
---|
16 | 17 | | the leadership of its executive director, Lisa Gilliland, as well |
---|
17 | 18 | | as from the outstanding efforts of its supporting staff, board |
---|
18 | 19 | | members, and volunteers; highlights of the organization's history |
---|
19 | 20 | | include the creation of its News on Wheels newsletter, the |
---|
20 | 21 | | renovation and expansion of its kitchen and office space, the |
---|
21 | 22 | | institution of weekend deliveries for those in need, the extension |
---|
22 | 23 | | of services to Wolfforth, and the implementation of several |
---|
23 | 24 | | successful fundraising efforts; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through the simple act of delivering healthy meals, |
---|
25 | 26 | | volunteers with Lubbock Meals on Wheels have enriched the lives of |
---|
26 | 27 | | countless area residents in need, and it is a privilege to honor all |
---|
27 | 28 | | those associated with this esteemed organization for their |
---|
28 | 29 | | compassion and dedication; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Lubbock |
---|
31 | 32 | | Meals on Wheels, Inc., and commend its board members, staff, and |
---|
32 | 33 | | volunteers for their caring service to their fellow Texans; and, be |
