45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Minerva Trujillo is concluding her tenure on the
67 Killeen Independent School District Board of Trustees in May 2021,
78 drawing to a close more than 40 years of service to the district as
89 an educator and trustee; and
910 WHEREAS, A native of New Mexico, Ms. Trujillo earned her
1011 bachelor's degree at Eastern New Mexico University and her master's
1112 degree at Auburn University; she moved to Killeen in 1980, when her
1213 husband, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Trujillo, was
1314 transferred to Fort Hood; and
1415 WHEREAS, Soon after arriving in Texas, Ms. Trujillo embarked
1516 upon a career with Killeen ISD that would eventually span 35 years,
1617 and she served as a teacher, as an assistant principal, as
1718 coordinator for Certified Personnel, and as principal of three
1819 campuses, Willow Springs Elementary School, Maxdale Elementary
1920 School, and Audie Murphy Middle School; she was named Administrator
2021 of the Year by the Killeen Classroom Teachers Association in 1996
2122 and Region 12 Association of Texas Professional Administrator of
2223 the Year in 1997; she retired from the district in 2009; and
2324 WHEREAS, Ms. Trujillo's husband was a three-term member of
2425 the school board, and when he passed away in 2010, she was appointed
2526 to complete his term; she remained on the board for 11 years,
2627 earning the respect and admiration of her fellow board members as
2728 well as teachers and parents in the district; she has also served on
2829 the boards of the KISD Education Foundation and Communities in
2930 Schools; and
3031 WHEREAS, In addition to her many contributions in education,
3132 Ms. Trujillo has served on the Killeen Housing Authority
3233 Commissioners Board and the Board Development Committee of the Girl
3334 Scouts of Central Texas; she is the recipient of numerous honors,
3435 including a 1996 Texas Women of Distinction award from the
3536 Bluebonnet Girl Scout Council, a 1997 Texas Women of Distinction
3637 award from the Girl Scouts, and the 2001 Fort Hood Good Neighbor
3738 Award; moreover, she is an active member of St. Joseph Catholic
3839 Church; and
3940 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Trujillo enjoys the love
4041 and support of her three children, Dr. Laura A. Trujillo-Jenks,
4142 U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Paul M. Trujillo, and Michelle C.
4243 Trujillo; and
4344 WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Minerva Trujillo's
4445 dedication, expertise, and commitment to excellence have greatly
4546 benefited the students of Killeen ISD, and she may indeed reflect
4647 with pride on her exemplary record of achievement as she embarks on
4748 the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
4849 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4950 Legislature hereby commend Minerva Trujillo for her long record of
5051 service to the Killeen Independent School District and extend to
5152 her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
5253 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5354 prepared for Ms. Trujillo as an expression of high regard by the
5455 Texas House of Representatives.
