5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Minerva Trujillo is concluding her tenure on the |

6 | 7 | | Killeen Independent School District Board of Trustees in May 2021, |

7 | 8 | | drawing to a close more than 40 years of service to the district as |

8 | 9 | | an educator and trustee; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of New Mexico, Ms. Trujillo earned her |
---|
10 | 11 | | bachelor's degree at Eastern New Mexico University and her master's |
---|
11 | 12 | | degree at Auburn University; she moved to Killeen in 1980, when her |
---|
12 | 13 | | husband, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Trujillo, was |
---|
13 | 14 | | transferred to Fort Hood; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Soon after arriving in Texas, Ms. Trujillo embarked |
---|
15 | 16 | | upon a career with Killeen ISD that would eventually span 35 years, |
---|
16 | 17 | | and she served as a teacher, as an assistant principal, as |
---|
17 | 18 | | coordinator for Certified Personnel, and as principal of three |
---|
18 | 19 | | campuses, Willow Springs Elementary School, Maxdale Elementary |
---|
19 | 20 | | School, and Audie Murphy Middle School; she was named Administrator |
---|
20 | 21 | | of the Year by the Killeen Classroom Teachers Association in 1996 |
---|
21 | 22 | | and Region 12 Association of Texas Professional Administrator of |
---|
22 | 23 | | the Year in 1997; she retired from the district in 2009; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Trujillo's husband was a three-term member of |
---|
24 | 25 | | the school board, and when he passed away in 2010, she was appointed |
---|
25 | 26 | | to complete his term; she remained on the board for 11 years, |
---|
26 | 27 | | earning the respect and admiration of her fellow board members as |
---|
27 | 28 | | well as teachers and parents in the district; she has also served on |
---|
28 | 29 | | the boards of the KISD Education Foundation and Communities in |
---|
29 | 30 | | Schools; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her many contributions in education, |
---|
31 | 32 | | Ms. Trujillo has served on the Killeen Housing Authority |
---|
32 | 33 | | Commissioners Board and the Board Development Committee of the Girl |
---|
33 | 34 | | Scouts of Central Texas; she is the recipient of numerous honors, |
---|
34 | 35 | | including a 1996 Texas Women of Distinction award from the |
---|
35 | 36 | | Bluebonnet Girl Scout Council, a 1997 Texas Women of Distinction |
---|
36 | 37 | | award from the Girl Scouts, and the 2001 Fort Hood Good Neighbor |
---|
37 | 38 | | Award; moreover, she is an active member of St. Joseph Catholic |
---|
38 | 39 | | Church; and |
---|
39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Trujillo enjoys the love |
---|
40 | 41 | | and support of her three children, Dr. Laura A. Trujillo-Jenks, |
---|
41 | 42 | | U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Paul M. Trujillo, and Michelle C. |

42 | 43 | | Trujillo; and |

43 | 44 | | WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Minerva Trujillo's |
---|
44 | 45 | | dedication, expertise, and commitment to excellence have greatly |
---|
45 | 46 | | benefited the students of Killeen ISD, and she may indeed reflect |
---|
46 | 47 | | with pride on her exemplary record of achievement as she embarks on |
---|
47 | 48 | | the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it |

48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

49 | 50 | | Legislature hereby commend Minerva Trujillo for her long record of |
---|
50 | 51 | | service to the Killeen Independent School District and extend to |
---|
51 | 52 | | her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |

52 | 53 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
