55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the creation and elimination of certain state holidays.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
1010 to read as follows:
1111 (b) A state holiday includes only the following days:
1212 (1) [the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes
1313 Day," in honor of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other
1414 Confederate heroes;
1515 [(2)] the second day of March, "Texas Independence
1616 Day";
1717 (2) [(3)] the 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
1818 (3) [(4)] the 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in
1919 Texas," in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas in 1865;
2020 (4) the 28th day of June, "Celebration of Suffrage
2121 Day," in honor of the centuries-long struggle to bring the right of
2222 suffrage to all Americans;
2323 (5) the 27th day of August, "Lyndon Baines Johnson
2424 Day," in observance of the birthday of Lyndon Baines Johnson;
2525 (6) the Friday after Thanksgiving Day;
2626 (7) the 24th day of December; and
2727 (8) the 26th day of December.
2828 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
