| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 12, Agriculture Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Section 12.051 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 12.051. FARMER MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE PREVENTION | |
| 13 | 13 | PROGRAM. (a) The department shall establish a farmer mental health | |
| 14 | 14 | and suicide prevention program to raise awareness among farmers of | |
| 15 | 15 | issues relating to mental health and suicide prevention. | |
| 16 | 16 | (b) As part of the program, the department shall: | |
| 17 | 17 | (1) promote suicide prevention among farmers through a | |
| 18 | 18 | public awareness campaign; | |
| 19 | 19 | (2) provide a toll-free telephone hotline for farmer | |
| 20 | 20 | mental health assistance; | |
| 21 | 21 | (3) develop a mental wellness plan for farmers | |
| 22 | 22 | affected by a disaster; and | |
| 23 | 23 | (4) coordinate suicide prevention activities with | |
| 24 | 24 | other state agencies, including the Department of State Health | |
| 25 | 25 | Services. | |
| 26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
