8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Chapter 150, Local Government Code, is amended | |
10 | 10 | by adding Subchapter D to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | SUBCHAPTER D. POLICE OFFICER TRAINING ACADEMIES | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 150.061. REQUIREMENT TO HOLD CADET TRAINING IN CERTAIN | |
13 | 13 | MUNICIPALITIES. (a) This section applies only to a municipality: | |
14 | 14 | (1) with a population of 950,000 or more; and | |
15 | 15 | (2) that operates or sponsors a police officer | |
16 | 16 | training academy. | |
17 | 17 | (b) A municipality whose police department has more than 50 | |
18 | 18 | police officer vacancies shall hold a police cadet training class | |
19 | 19 | to begin not later than the earlier of: | |
20 | 20 | (1) the date of a class scheduled to begin; or | |
21 | 21 | (2) a date that will ensure that the cadets graduate | |
22 | 22 | not later than one year after the first date the number of vacancies | |
23 | 23 | was more than 50. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
