| 10 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 156.001, Occupations Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 10 | adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 11 | (g) A determination by the board regarding whether a | |
| 13 | 12 | physician is specialty board certified: | |
| 14 | 13 | (1) must be based on the physician's initial specialty | |
| 15 | 14 | board certification by a specialty board organization acceptable to | |
| 16 | 15 | the board; and | |
| 17 | 16 | (2) may not be based on the physician's maintenance of | |
| 18 | 17 | certification after the physician's initial specialty board | |
| 19 | 18 | certification. | |
| 20 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
