| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 33.0833 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 33.0833. BROADCASTING OF ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS. The | |
| 13 | 13 | University Interscholastic League may not adopt a rule or policy | |
| 14 | 14 | that allows online broadcasting of an athletic competition | |
| 15 | 15 | sponsored or sanctioned by the league in a manner that requires | |
| 16 | 16 | payment to view the broadcast, including through a paid Internet | |
| 17 | 17 | subscription service. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 | |
| 19 | 19 | school year. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 21 | 21 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 22 | 22 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 24 | 24 | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
