| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 411.1955 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 411.1955. WAIVER OF CERTAIN FEES FOR SCHOOL MARSHALS. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | department shall waive any fee required for the issuance of a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | duplicate, modified, or renewed license under this subchapter if |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the applicant for the license is currently appointed as a school |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | marshal under Section 37.0811, 37.0813, or 51.220, Education Code. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) The applicant must submit with the application |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | materials proof of: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (1) active status as a school marshal; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) current licensure under Section 1701.260, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Occupations Code. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to an application for a duplicate, modified, or renewed license to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | carry a handgun submitted on or after the effective date of this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act. An application submitted before the effective date of this Act |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | is governed by the law in effect when the application was submitted, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
