44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to expanding the compensatory education allotment to allow
77 funds to be used to implement social-emotional learning programs.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 48.104, Education Code, is amended by
1010 amending subsection (j-1) to read as follows:
1111 (j-1) In addition to other purposes for which funds
1212 allocated under this section may be used, those funds may also be
1313 used to:
1414 (1) provide child-care services or assistance with
1515 child-care expenses for students at risk of dropping out of school,
1616 as described by Section 29.081(d)(5); [or]
1717 (2) pay the costs associated with services provided
1818 through a life skills program in accordance with Sections
1919 29.085(b)(1) and (3)-(7); or
2020 (3) pay the costs associated with implementing social
2121 and emotional learning programs.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
