66 AN ACT
77 relating to continuing education programs for fire detection and
88 alarm device installation.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 6002.052(b), Insurance Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (b) Under rules adopted under Section 6002.051, the
1313 department may create specialized licenses or registration
1414 certificates for an organization or individual engaged in the
1515 business of planning, certifying, leasing, selling, servicing,
1616 installing, monitoring, or maintaining fire alarm or fire detection
1717 devices or systems. The rules must establish appropriate training
1818 and qualification standards and continuing education requirements
1919 for each kind of license and certificate.
2020 SECTION 2. Section 6002.159(b), Insurance Code, is amended
2121 to read as follows:
2222 (b) If the commissioner certifies continuing education
2323 programs under this section, the commissioner by rule shall require
2424 license holders to participate [Participation] in the [continuing
2525 education] programs [is voluntary].
2626 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2727 to a license issued or renewed on or after the effective date of
2828 this Act. A license issued or renewed before the effective date of
2929 this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before the
3030 effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for
3131 that purpose.
3232 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
