| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 11.185(c), Education Code, is amended to | |
| 11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (c) Each plan adopted under Subsection (a) shall [may] set | |
| 13 | 13 | separate goals for students in a bilingual education [or special | |
| 14 | 14 | language] program using a dual language immersion/one-way or | |
| 15 | 15 | two-way program under Subchapter B, Chapter 29, including goals for | |
| 16 | 16 | student achievement in both program languages. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 | |
| 18 | 18 | school year. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
