55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the inclusion of adults with mental illness in
88 reduced-fare programs of public transportation providers.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Chapter 461, Transportation Code, is amended by
1111 adding Section 461.010 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 461.010. REDUCED FARE PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH
1313 DISABILITIES; INCLUSION OF ADULTS WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. A public
1414 transportation provider that offers reduced fares for people with
1515 disabilities must offer the same reduced fares for adults who have
1616 severe and persistent mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, major
1717 depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder,
1818 obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorder, attention
1919 deficit/hyperactivity disorder, delusional disorder, bulimia
2020 nervosa, anorexia nervosa, or other severely disabling mental
2121 disorders that require crisis resolution or ongoing and long-term
2222 support and treatment.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
