66 AN ACT
77 relating to the creation of an additional judicial district
88 composed of Smith County.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Effective January 1, 2023, Subchapter C, Chapter
1111 24, Government Code, is amended by adding Section 24.60098 to read
1212 as follows:
1313 Sec. 24.60098. 475TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT (SMITH COUNTY). The
1414 475th Judicial District is composed of Smith County.
1515 SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 24.026, Government
1616 Code, the initial vacancy in the office of judge of the 475th
1717 Judicial District shall be filled by election. The office exists
1818 for purposes of the primary and general elections in 2022. A
1919 vacancy after the initial vacancy is filled as provided by Section
2020 28, Article V, Texas Constitution.
2121 SECTION 3. The 475th Judicial District is created January
2222 1, 2023.
2323 SECTION 4. Except as otherwise provided by this Act, this
2424 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
