9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Effective January 1, 2023, Subchapter C, Chapter | |
11 | 11 | 24, Government Code, is amended by adding Section 24.60098 to read | |
12 | 12 | as follows: | |
13 | 13 | Sec. 24.60098. 475TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT (SMITH COUNTY). The | |
14 | 14 | 475th Judicial District is composed of Smith County. | |
15 | 15 | SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 24.026, Government | |
16 | 16 | Code, the initial vacancy in the office of judge of the 475th | |
17 | 17 | Judicial District shall be filled by election. The office exists | |
18 | 18 | for purposes of the primary and general elections in 2022. A | |
19 | 19 | vacancy after the initial vacancy is filled as provided by Section | |
20 | 20 | 28, Article V, Texas Constitution. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 3. The 475th Judicial District is created January | |
22 | 22 | 1, 2023. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 4. Except as otherwise provided by this Act, this | |
24 | 24 | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
